The Story –
A few years back I got to work with and become friends with Neil and Pegi Young. One day I was among a group of women who were hanging out at the Young’s Ranch that is situated down a very long and obscure dirt road. We were telling stories about our lives, as women will do. Pegi told a story of when she first moved to the ranch and Neil was on the road. She was there on her own when early one Sunday morning, some way-fairing hippy chick popped up on the front porch looking for Neil, having walked the whole long way from wherever she’d come from. We all marveled at the challenge of dealing with having such a famous husband, wondering how we would handle it. I took it a step further and wrote “Nobody” from the viewpoint of the wife of a famous musician, imagining that at a certain point, no matter how much celebrity a person has, to someone they might just want to be “nobody”. |
