When the levies broke in New Orleans a whole history, culture and way of life was essentially washed off the map for a lot of people who played music for their livelihood. Famous or obscure, the water did not play favorites, and for the better part of a week, piano legend Fats Domino was missing.

It hit me hard when I heard it, and I was surprised by my emotion. It wasn’t just about Fats, it was this insult coming on the heals of so many other injuries; war, political stupidity, sham elections…all of it.
And I really just felt like I could not bear to hear all the loss of so much that was important to music and musical culture.

I later sent a copy of this song to Fat’s manager and he loved it.
He made an audio collage that began with my song and went on to include some wild performances of Fats giving hell to a baby grand.
He also told me, “You know, Fats is doing O.K. He’s not a poor man by any means, he can take care of himself”. Finally some good news.
